Sunshine's History
Sunshine for Humanity, Inc. was established in 2008 by Debra Johnson, (Debbie). The Sunshine House started in 2017. We survive solely on community support, individuals, businesses and churches, no federal or state funding.
Debbie was a professional clown who went to Vietnam in 2005 to spread a bit of sunshine.
On her first visit, which included several hospitals and three orphanages, she knew that God had sent her for a specific reason. In Vietnam, she witnessed many difficulties for "normal" children but the burden of the disabled or disfigured and sickly children overwhelmed her.
Debra started a scholarship fund with a local mission team but due to the differences in goals, she decided to work on her own, forming a non-profit, Sunshine For Humanity, Inc.
Currently Sunshine For Humanity, Inc. has established services to assist the demand for local support, with an emphasis on homelessness in our community and compassion for our neighbors in need.
Sunshine for Humanity's goal is to share God's love by improving economic, physical, and spiritual well-being. We develop relationships that help improve the quality of life. This includes helping with basic needs and sharing God's love and forgiveness.
"If there is among you a poor man of your brethren, within any of the gates in your land which the Lord your God is giving you, you shall not harden your heart nor shut your hand from your poor brother, but you shall open your hand wide to him and willingly lend him sufficient for his need, whatever his needs."
Deuteronomy 15: 7-8
